1. Departure from Athens
Early morning departure from Athens. Head towards the northern part of Greece
2. Arrival in Kalabaka
Arrival in Kalabaka, located on the mainland of Greece.
3. Main Destination: Meteora
Explore the breathtaking complex of Meteora, one of the largest Eastern Orthodox monasteries in Greece. UNESCO-listed as a unique cultural heritage phenomenon. Immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the landscape combined with the historical and spiritual context of the area.
4. Visit Monasteries
Explore 16th-century frescoes, marking a key stage in post-Byzantine painting.

Learn about the region’s history, where monasteries were built on almost inaccessible sandstone peaks from the 11th
century onwards. Discover the determination of monks who transformed these “columns of the sky” into sanctuaries.

6. Lunch Break
Enjoy a lunch break at a traditional tavern in Kalabaka or Kastraki village.
7. Monastery Visits
Visit 2 or 3 monasteries open to the public.
8. Return Journey to Athens
Depart from Meteora and start the return journey to Athens.
9. Brief Stop at Thermopylae
Make a brief stop at Thermopylae. Explore the historical site where the legendary Battle of Thermopylae took place in 480 BC. See the statue of King Leonidas erected as a symbol of bravery. Complete the journey back to Athens.
